Discussion Questions
Icebreaker question: What is the most meaningful item you have on your nightstand, your dresser, or your office desk?
1. Jephthah was one of the last in a declining cycle of judges. He was brutal and impetuous. But if you read the “Hall of Faith” section of Hebrews Chapter 11, you’ll find Jephthah listed there. What does this say about Jephthah? Or more importantly, what does it say about God?
2. Jesus’ disciples were part of an “inner ring.” But Jesus was also more accepting of outsiders than any religious leader who ever lived. How do we as Christians balance those two tensions of being insiders but also welcoming to all?
3. Bible quiz: Can you cite (at least) two examples in the Gospels where Jesus admonished the disciples for being too exclusive? (Hint: Read Mark 9: 38-41 and Mark 10:13-16)
4. Does One Hope have any "shibboleths" that could make new people feel like they don’t belong or like they’re on the outside looking in?
